About Us


Mission Statement

Sister to Sister International, Inc. (STSI) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization established in 1994, that links women of African descent globally to the resources that connect, advance and strengthen us.  We do this through advocacy, education and the promotion of African culture.


Events

To this end we sponsor health symposiums; personal and professional development workshops and seminars; global briefings; communications sessions for youth; fund raisers to enable charitable contributions; publish a newsletter; dialogue with legislators on key issues affecting women and families; collaborate with NGO’s, other organizations and like minded individuals; support U.N. conferences and the Millennium Development Goals, as well as network with women from around the world. Greetings and on behalf of the board and members, welcome to the Sister to Sister International web site. Thank you for inquiring about us and we are delighted to have you visit.

Developing healthy lifestyles is a cornerstone of our organization. STSI is affiliated with the UN Department of Information.  We support the United Nations Platform for Action on women and its objectives regarding race and gender Equality, Development and Peace. 

Our scope of work is accomplished primarily through advocacy, education, networking, promoting African culture, humanitarianism and grass roots project implementation.

Who We Are

Sister to Sister International, Inc., (STSI) began as a family group, founded by Cheryl Brannan and has since grown to an international network of hundreds of women from throughout the Diaspora.  The organization is led by a 23 member Board of diverse, dynamic women Directors.  STSI’S intergenerational membership includes women from all walks of life, including  the  business, political, civic, grass roots and  professional arenas, globally. 


Events

Sister to Sister International is an official  non-governmental organization in special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the U.N. and are affiliated with the Department of Public Information. They advocate for and support the United Nations Platform for Action on women and its objectives regarding race, gender equality, development and peace, as well as achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. 

Sister to Sister International inspires members of the community to think globally and act locally through their broad array of  activities, events and programs.  They also consistently promote the development of healthy lifestyles, which is a cornerstone of their organization.  

To this end, Sister to Sister sponsors premiere Health Symposia & Campaigns. Current local and global campaigns include: “Sisters Beating the Odds & Claiming Wellness” which encourages women to know their stats’ and how they size up against critical risk factors related to life threatening diseases, an “HIV/AIDS Declaration,” which facilitates global education & outreach and “Maama Kit Mania” a Safe Birthing Initiative, in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the Links, Inc., that focuses on infant and maternal mortality.  With broad based support from various segments of the community, STSI facilitated the purchase of over 3,000 safe birthing kits for women in Africa.  

Other activities and events include: personal and professional development workshops and seminars; global briefings, on issues affecting people in the diaspora; educational programs and scholarships for youth; fund-raisers to enable charitable contributions and scholarships; the publication of  a newsletter to keep members and the community at large informed on key issues and activities; dialogue with legislators on important issues affecting women and families; support for UN conferences and  annual sponsorship of an STSI  U.N. Day, that includes a global awareness session for youth, a workshop on thematic issues related to women globally and a Networking Reception, encouraging American women to meet and collaborate with sisters from around the world.   

Sister to Sister International, Inc. collaborates with various non-governmental and like-minded organizations globally on a myriad of issues.  

The members of Sister to Sister International believe: “We are our Sisters Keeper and when we empower women, we uplift families, communities, our race, societies and indeed – the world!”
