The meditation for this month is:

Is there something happening in your life right now that you do not understand?  A situation in which you are not sure of which road to take?  Or perhaps see no way out?  And you are wondering how you are
going to make it.  Confusion comes when we try to figure everything out. When we struggle to find answers for all the questions.  When these
urges to know the answers bombard our minds, we need to get control of those thoughts.  The Bible says we are in a war--and our warfare, our
battle, is largely a mental battle.  God wants you to have peace.  But, you must make a decision to live in peace and joy; Not confusion or turmoil.  You will need to give up following your impulse to figure
things out And learn to trust God to reveal the answers in His timing. And trust that He will.  For we walk by faith, not by sight.  II Corinthians 5:7 KJV

cheryl headGreetings STSI Members:

We have a new president and first lady....Wow!! I still have to pinch myself to believe that it is REAL!!

Please see my note on our New President sent out on November 7th, if you have not seen it already.  It includes photos and great links on the Presidential election.

CHANGE IS COMING..
I don't know about you, but I feel President Elect Obama's message challenges us all to look at how we can change our outlook in some regard, and challenge ourselves to strive toward excellence, despite the odds!  Clearly, he has shown us that no matter how hard the task, "Beating the Odds is Possible!!"

I am personally challenging myself to Beat the Odds, related to my attempts at weight loss and other aspects of my life that have me in a re-invention mode.  I had the opportunity to attend a great workshop at the recent Essence Conference on re-inventing yourself, which was very thought provoking.  Certainly, re-inventing oneself is not a new concept, but I feel we all have to re-evaluate where we are on an on-going basis and make sure that we stay on track with our goals.

Also, our board members are looking at how we can bring change to our programming to ensure that we are meeting  membership requirements and maximizing our efforts, so you will be hearing from us, as we survey your interest for the new year.

TOUGH ECONOMIC TIMES..
I am sure that you have seen that our economy is in a downward spiral therefore, now more than ever, we need to stay "on top" of our finances.  In this regard, we are most pleased to spotlight Jamie Hubert this month.  She is one of our fantastic members who does a great job with financial  planning.  Now might be a good time to give her a call and check her out!

Also, this year in light of our economic times we have decided to host a complimentary Holiday Reception at our new office, featuring "Networking & Noshing" as well as fun and dancing, while collecting gifts for the needy.   I look forward to seeing you all there!

Happy Holidays to You & Yours!

Yours In Sisterhood

STSI OCTOBER MEETING QUICK RE-CAP

It was a bright autumn Saturday that bolstered the spirits of the membership of Sister to Sister International, on October 11, 2008 at the Riverfront Library, Yonkers, New York.

The theme, "Keeping Your Precious Home" was the focus of each attendee's attention.  The presentation was given by Ms. Margaret Thomas, Reverse Mortgage Consultant for Countrywide.  Ms. Thomas provided information and insight into how tapping into the equity in one's home can be the solution to a financial dilemma while one remains in their house.  She discussed the intricacies and circumstances that might lead to considering reverse mortgage vs. an equity loan or sale of one's property.   Ms. Thomas fielded questions from the audience and met with some members individually, as well. To contact Ms. Thomas call: 917.656.2615

The STSI Africa Delegation presented a slide-show that re-capped their summer excursion for our members... and oh what wonderful stories accompanied the show!  Cheryl Brannan, Terry Doswell & Sayidana Brannan reminisced the experience with great enthusiasm and helped  us all appreciate Africa, even more. Other delegation members not present were Yedidah Yehudah & Adell Dowdy.

Also, STSI International Chairperson, Aurelia Perkins, treated members to her summer memories of a first time excursion to Southern Africa.  Her re-count was very enlightening!

The meeting concluded with a swearing-in of new members.

The meeting was co-hosted by the Membership Committee co-chairs, Donna Coles and Laverne Johnson, along with Germaine Scott, Functional Chairperson.
