Sister To Sister Humanitarian Efforts

STSI has been involved in a host of Humanitarian Efforts over the years.  Some of our past involvement’s are as follows:

·     Maama Kit Initiative with the World Health Organization & the Links, Inc. – STSI raised over $15,000 to purchase over 3,000 safe birthing kits for women in Uganda.  STSI underwrites the cost of this campaign and all funds are donated to Maama Kits. This campaign is being moved to Mozambique and additional funds are being sought to continue saving lives of women and children in Africa.

·     Hon. Ruth V. Washington, Gambian National Library Book Drive – STSI has collected and given hundreds of books to the Gambian National Library in memory of the former Ambassador and STSI member Ruth V. Washington.  We are in need of funding to underwrite the cost of shipping books.

·  STSI has given funding assistance to area college students, youth organizations, the Underground Railroad Museum and other charitable concerns.  Your contribution will enable us to continue to make charitable donations in this regard.

·    Gift of Limbs Program – In support of Children who have lost limbs during civil unrest in Sierra Leone.  STSI hosted child victims from Sierra Leone along with Rotary International leaders, at a community fundraising forum to assist in purchasing prosthetics. The prosthetics enabled youth to live more fruitful lives.

·    The Kondwa Day Care Center – STSI contributed to the Kondwa Day Care Center.

In Southern Africa -  a center for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS parents. The Kondwa Day Care Center is the brainchild of a very resourceful widow who had a bar converted into a Day Care Center.
